Here is a question I recently received from FOODPICKER.org
I am worried because I was just diagnosed with diabetes. I drink freshly squeezed orange juice three times a week. Does orange juice contain too much sugar and is it advisable for a diabetic to drink juice?
Answer: Fruit juice is a beverage that will increase blood sugar quite rapidly. You might try a small whole orange instead of the juice. A small orange will contain about 15 grams of carbohydrate and contains some fiber which may help you to feel full longer. One half cup of orange juice contains 15 grams of carbohydrate. Other juices such as grape juice contain 15 grams carbohydrate in 1/3 cup.
I would also recommend that you see a Certified Diabetes Educator & Registered Dietitian to help you get started with the basics of caring for your diabetes as well as help you develop a meal plan.
